Dr. Kevin Roby

Dr. Roby has been providing mental skills training to athletes since the year 2000.

 

Education and Background: Dr. Roby earned his B.S. degree in 1977, his M.A. in 1988, and his Ph.D. in 1993, all with a major in Psychology. In 1999-2000, Dr. Roby began devoting himself to the study and practice of sport psychology. He attended several national sport psychology conferences and immersed himself in the sport psychology literature. In 2008, he took additional professional training and became certified as a Mental Game Coaching Professional (MGCP). His initial Sport Psychology practice, Golf Psychology Consultants, opened in 2000. At that time, Dr. Roby worked exclusively with amateur and professional golfers. Throughout the years, however, as he began working with athletes in a variety of fields, he appropriately changed the name of his practice to Las Vegas Sport Psychology. 

Range of Clients:  Dr. Roby has helped amateur and professional competitors in archery, golf, gymnastics, tennis, bowling, volleyball, hockey, baseball, billiards, softball, soccer, canine agility competitions, professional poker, and other fields. His clients have ranged in age from nine years to 75! Presentations:  Dr. Roby has provided Sport Psychology Presentations to the Las Vegas chapter of the PGA; the Annual Conference of the International Network for Golf; at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas; Southern Utah University; Sun City Summerlin and Sun City Anthem; Reflection Bay Golf Resort; as well as presentations at various other facilities. 

Media Coverage:  Multiple forms of Public Media have covered Dr. Roby’s work with athletes.  Print Media includes multiple articles across several years in the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the Las Vegas Sun, and Vegas Golfer Magazine. Radio coverage includes The 19th Hole (longest running golf talk show in the U.S.) and Those Weekend Golf Guys (fastest growing golf talk show in the U.S.). Television coverage includes Fox Sports West, and the the local affiliate of ABC television. 

Publications:  For three years, Dr. Roby was a regular columnist for the Southern New England Golfer magazine. His column was titled, “Mental Golf.” He also has published multiple original articles on his website, www.LasVegasSportPsychology.com.  In addition, several of his articles have been featured on a variety of other sport psychology websites.
